You cannot imagine the amazement, delight, shock and joy in the UK today, as the whole nation was gripped by the exploits of (until recently) a relatively unknown teenage prodigy. Emma Raducanu has swept the word before her, going from qualifier to US Open Tennis champion. There is a well loved Xmas song often played in this country from the Pogues called "Fairytale of New York", and that's exactly what this astonishing victory was.
The thing about Emma is that behind the fun, the selfies and obvious sporting talent is a ruthless killer on the court. She did not lose a set!!! Not even a tie break!! She did not give any opponent a chance. It was tennis at its most graceful, and also at its most brutal efficiency.
Emma is a Scorpio, born 13th November 2003 with South Node conjunct Sun. That for a sportsperson is a fascinating position, as it brings a karmic element to one's life. It suggests that they have mastered their past life skills (in Emma's case in Scorpio dealing with power, pressure and change) and she will be almost familiar with those sensations. Walking to the vast bowl and pressure cooker atmosphere of Flushing Meadow for many would make them feel overwhelmed. For Emma, one might suggest to her it's second nature because of the conjunction. She has an amazing Mars opposition to Jupiter, Mars in imaginative dreamy Pisces and Jupiter in analytical Virgo squared onto Pluto, the planet of power.
Here is imagination, a computer like focus, sporting prowess and power and huge determination and physical strength. The Moon conjunction to Saturn in Cancer holds emotions (and there are potentially many ) in check to keep her in the moment. Venus conjunct to Pluto is passionate, Mercury in Sagittarius is fun and loves to travel, and square to Uranus brings great intelligence and fabulous reactions. She has the whole package from this chart.
My one worry is that North Node in Taurus opposite her Sun. That North Node provides resources for her and will do all her life. What happens when everything becomes familiar and run of the mill? You can see the excitement of the adventure for her, and she thrives on it. North Node in Taurus says to me that she will struggle if things remain the same, or she achieves everything she desires too early; if she becomes wealthy beyond her dreams and the constant grind of the tennis tour wears on her. How she deals with the trappings of success will be her biggest test. That's for the future though.
Let's celebrate a miracle, the freshness of youth and a fabulous new talent in the world of sport...
