We start out egotistical in life. We screw up and we blame others. Already, at 2 years old, a boy falls off his rocking horse and kicks the horse. Obviously it’s the horse’s fault that he fell off. There is no more egotistical creature on Earth than the 6 year old child. The world literally revolves around them. That is why I say one of the basic themes of narcissism is called, “And now we are six.” What that means is that narcissist more or less stays 6 years old for their entire lives or at least as long as they are narcissistic. They simply do not progress beyond that early developmental stage.
If egotism is natural and normal in life, then I would assume that most people at least like themselves if only because that’s how you survive at all in the world.
There is more evidence that points along these lines. Studies have shown that most people think they are better looking than they actually are. And other studies have shown that the natural and normal human base state is to be somewhat optimistic, even excessively so. The natural human way of looking at the world might be called “excessively and irrationally optimistic.” Once again, you practically have to be this way to survive.
