Polls prove, an overwhelming percentage of Americans support drug testing for Entitlement recipients. American Tax Payers are tired of supporting drug addicts and alcoholics –which are curable if effort is put in. Imagine your hard-earned money going to support an ever-growing addicted society. Because, this is precisely what is happening in America today. However, SSI, Food Stamp, Medicaid, WIC, and HUD recipients are not the only Welfare recipients who need drug tested. Congress should be tested too –in fact, they should be tested first!
Yes, Congress and the President are Welfare recipients! Nearly ½ of American taxes are spent to support this fast-growing Government of “takers”. We not only support them while in Office; we also support them after. If “Takers” and “Makers” from general society are subject to random drug testing, it’s only fair our Elected Officials be tested. Those who make decisions which affect all People, National Security, Military strategies, Economics, World affairs, and run America should NOT be under the influence of intoxicants. Yet, this seems to be the scenario, if one studies the facts.
The behavior and definition of addiction is clear: Lying; cheating; stealing; promiscuity; bad decisions; reckless behavior; and, putting others at risk –just to name a few. “Addiction is the continued repetition of a behavior despite adverse consequences, or a neurological impairment leading to such behaviors” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Addiction ). Sound familiar? It certainly does to this American! A blind person can see this type of pattern deep-seated within Government.
Ranting about this subject often, some misguided are claiming the 5th Amendment as a defense. For the ignorant, here’s an educational revelation for you: The 5th Amendment only protects in court proceedings! “No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation” (http://criminal.findlaw.com/criminal-rights/u-s-constitution-fifth-amendment.html#sthash.ZKbE232U.dpuf ). Therefore, said argument is invalid. If valid, every working American would deny testing.
If hard-working Americans must submit to drug testing to get or keep a job –so should those they support! This includes, not excludes the President and Congress. Not doing so endangers America and her People. Would you trust a crack-head to protect you or loved ones? Would you go into a local bar, pick out a drunkard and give him control over the Country? Of course not, that would be lunacy! Yet, do we really know America is not being run by crack-heads and drunkards? No. What’s more, we will not know, unless drug testing for Government is implemented!
