I have always been intrigued by the life of Doris Duke. My 200 year old farm house actually is rumored to have fireplace tile from the Duke estate in Belle Mead/Hillsborough NJ. I found it interesting and rather sad that Doris Duke once considered the wealthiest girl in the world for her time, collector of fine art and worldly possessions still never seemed happy. It was unfortunate because she lived such a magnificent life and surrounded herself by "things" that she loved, and did not seem to care if they appealed to the masses! She was a woman after my own heart in that aspect. We have the Duke Farm within a half hour from my home it’s truly a beautiful setting. However, I would really love to visit the Duke Estate in Hawaii-Shangri La! After seeing the review of the Book -Doris Duke's Shangri La, A House in Paradise, I had to research about this estate because I too love Arabic art and architecture, and have a few Islamic inspired pieces that I obtained over the years. Please enjoy a view into Shangri La.
