AYURVEDIC ASPECT OF TEETH HEALTH:

In Ayurveda, teeth are considered as part of Asthi dhatu (Bone tissue). Ayurveda texts have medicinal and anti-cryogenic (fight tooth decay) properties. Ayurveda recommends the use of herbal brushes and chewing sticks (Datun) for dental health (Danta swasthya in Sanskrit). Datun have been widely used in the Indian sub-continent, the middle east and Africa since ancient times. Datun can be a good alternative to a toothbrush and also prevents oral cavity disorders. Chewing Datun in morning as well as after every meal is useful in preventing oral cavity diseases. Ayurveda oral practice i.e.- holding fluid inside mouth (Gandush), gargling (Kaval) are claimed to cure oral cavity diseases and 30 other systemic disease.

GANDUSH is filling the mouth with medicated liquid in the morning and holding it for a few minutes without moving it inside the oral cavity.

KAVAL holds a comparatively less amount of liquid in the mouth and then moves it inside the oral cavity and spits it quickly.

DIAGNOSIS

Most dental problems can be diagnosed during a dental examination. During a dental check-up, your dentist will inspect your teeth, tongue, cheeks, mouth and throat. If any serious illness of the oral cavity is suspected, then your dentist may ask you to get the imaging tests done. These tests include:
