Does Spending More Equal A Better Product?

By Brokebutbeautiful @never2broke4bea
Like a lot of people I like a good bargain, or even better, a freebie, so when Company magazine were giving away free Nails Inc polish I rushed down to newsagents and treated myself! The particular Nails Inc polish they were giving away retail at £11.00. I am dedicated to budget buys so to me £11.00 seems a little on the expensive side, but I thought it provided the perfect opportunity to see how more expensive brands compare to high street ones.
There were four shades on offer and I opted for Tate, which is a gorgeous red color and not dissimilar to Bourjois 10 Day Nail Enamel in shade 10. However, unlike Nails Inc the Bourjois is priced at £5.99. This made me wonder if paying more for a product always pays off. I've compared the two to see if this is the case:
Nails Inc

Does Spending More Equal A Better Product?

Nails Inc in Tate

The product:  A gorgeous red nail paint from Nails Inc
Application: The brush is quite narrow which means that it takes around three strokes to cover the nail. It requires two coats to get good, even coverage.
Longevity: Once applied the length of wear without chips is minimal. I've tried this polish quite a few times and have never gone as long as a day without it chipping. Even with touch ups the the maximum length of wear is two days.
Affordable: This is priced at £11.00, which to me is quite a lot of money for a product that doesn't last more than a day without chipping.
Would I repurchase? No, I got this polish free with a magazine but I would not pay for it. Although the color is lovely, if I was paying over £10 for a polish I would expect to be able to wear it for at least a day without chips appearing.
Bourjois 10 Day Nail Enamel

Bourjois 10 Day Nail Enamel in shade 10

The product: A long lasting polish for Bourjois
Application: I have never come across a polish that is as quick and easy to apply as this. It has an angled brush that makes for a very fast and neat application.
Longevity: The long lasting formula means that it gives a good 2 to 3 days wear without chips and with touch ups wear can be extended to a week.
Affordable: At 5.99 this isn't the cheapest on the market but it is nearly half the price of the Nails Inc polish.
Would I repurchase? Yes, without a doubt. The color is great, it is very quick and easy to apply and most importantly it is hard wearing.
So, in my opinion Bourjois 10 Day Nail Enamel outshines the Nails Inc polish by miles and it is half the price. Does spending more money always guarantee a better product? I definitely don't think this is the case.
