DKNY Fall/Winter 2011/2012

By Joychoo

DKNY have a penchant for city landscapes. Therefore it's no surprise New York has been selected as the setting for their Fall/Winter 2011-2012 ad campaigns. (That, and the fact DKNY stands for Donna Karan New York.) Models Izabel Goulart, Aline Weber and Anne Vyalitsyna cover up in crisp whites and black tweeds for a monochrome and modest image. (Almost modest. Ladies, leave the exposed thighs at home.) DKNY has presented their new collection to be timeless. Clothes that are fashionably formal without excessive flamboyance can provide an entire wardrobe from only a few pieces of apparel.

If you compare the DKNY Fall/Winter 2011-2012 ad campaigns to the new set of Donna Karan ones, you can see the difference between the labels. DKNY produces casual, everyday wear at a relatively affordable price. On the other hand, Donna Karan defines haute couture with expensive, extravagant pieces. Whilst they both revolve around New York for the landscape, Donna Karan manages to elucidate a more refined, secluded sense of glamour. The businesswoman (Isabeli Fontana) moves through formal outfits comprising mostly of wool to evening attire of silk and viscose as her day progresses. The mere fact that such clothing collections exist make the thought of being a Working Woman more appealing than a being Lady of Leisure. Of course, the golddigger housewife with a rich spouse can play dress up too, but the false charade would be almost pitiful.
