Road trips are a blast, but they become a lot more complicated after you have kids. When before you just threw things into a suitcase and hit the open road, you have to worry about a lot more after having kids. Snacks, toys, activities, etc. Unless you want to hear “Are we there yet?” 100 times, you have to be prepared. One of the most frustrating parts about taking a road trip is bringing snacks into the car and making a mess; bags, wrappers, and nothing to seal the open food with properly when you’re done for the moment. So that’s why I thought to do this:
We first used this idea on a train ride to Chicago when Nolan was little. It was SUCH a hit (maybe more so with my husband ha), so we decided to bring it back this summer when planning our road trips. No bags, stale snacks, or trash to throw away. And to avoid any fights, I decided to personalize them with Sharpies. Now there will be no confusion or fighting! (Yeah, in my dreams…)
DIY Travel Snack Organizer Directions:
Wash container thoroughly with soap and water.
Dry COMPLETELY. Do not attempt to decorate until 100% dry.
Grab your Sharpies and go to work! We added stickers too
Fill with your favorite snacks.
Hit the road, Jack.
Super easy right? Each little compartment holds the perfect amount of snacks. Depending on how long your road trip is, your snacks may vary. But to avoid any melting or spoiling, we stuck with non-perishable snacks and non-melting candy. Twizzlers have always been one of my favorites and my kids love them too. Super easy to eat while driving and the fact that they won’t melt makes them by far the easiest candy to bring along!
Summer is short but the memories will last forever. Some of my favorite memories from my childhood include our vacations to Myrtle Beach. And one of the best and most entertaining parts was always the drive in the car. Where my Dad always asked for the Twizzlers, blasted AC/DC, and we drove straight through the night to get to the beach at sunrise.
I hope my kids will remember our road trips when they’re older and look back on the fond memories they made. Just like I have
