DIY Hair Sea Spray (for reals!)

Back in June, you may remember I posted a little diddy about a sea spray recipe I found through Pinterest. Since then, it’s garnered a lot of attention, so I thought it was time to try it myself! Plot preview: Best for use on damp hair!

The ingredients were simple enough (see the original recipe here), and most probably have them laying around the house (with the exception of coconut oil, which I got from Sprouts).

The recipe, with my modifications:

1 spray bottle, 8 oz. or larger (Target’s travel section)

1 TSP sea salt

1/2 TSP coconut oil

1 spoonful basic hair gel (I made sure it was not “curling” because I wanted to see what the other ingredients actually did)

8 oz. of warm water (I used hot water instead to dissolve the salt rocks)

Once you have everything measured out, there are no real directions needed – just slap everything in the spray bottle and shake it until its mixed.

Ta da! You’re done!

And while I knooooow you’re dying for a supermodel before and after, let me first explain that, being a visual learner (read: skimmer), I assumed this was meant to be spritzed on dry hair for a quick restyle (false)! So in my attempt to go from straight-to-wavy, dry-to-wet, what I ended up with was simply a ginormous rat’s nest. But fear not – the spray isn’t the culprit, it was clearly user error :)

Here’s at least a little texture difference for comparison’s sake:

Definitely going to work this into my post-shower routine tomorrow (the right way)! Would you ever use homemade sea spray? Have you tried it? Did it work?
