DIY Framed Chalkboard

Framed Chalkboard

It’s about damn time I hopped on the chalkboard paint train. I guess the thought of going to Home Depot and finding a frame seemed too daunting a task for me, that is until I became unemployed. Time is bountiful & projects are how I prefer to spend my days. This was a super EASY DIY project, and I am borderline obsessed with the new framed chalkboard hanging in our kitchen. It was just what that one wall needed… don’t you love when that happens? Have fun & email me if you have any questions!

p.s. I have TONS of leftover chalkboard paint, so apologies ahead of time if you see more projects involving this magical liquid.

Supplies needed:

  • Frame (you can most likely score one from your local thrift store)
  • Spray paint of your choice for the frame. I chose gold.
  • Chalkboard paint. You can choose black or green, personally I prefer black.

Step-by-step:

  1. Clean the frame and glass you plan to paint with rubbing alcohol.
  2. Cover the glass with painters tape or newspaper (or take it out if that’s possible). Also be sure to cover the ground with paper bags or newspaper. Spray paint the frame with a few coats and let dry fully.
  3. Using your big brush, paint majority of the glass with the chalkboard paint. When you get to the edges switch to a smaller brush to get all the crevices without painting on the gold frame. You will probably need 2 coats, let dry between coats.

Tips:

  • Be sure to paint in one direction, just for cohesiveness.
  • In a couple months you may need to paint a fresh coat, just to keep that nice black color
