Street food has its own charm and be it in Delhi, Mumbai or Kolkata, people from all walks of life enjoy it. Seeing its immense popularity, National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) has been organizing Street Food Festival at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium New Delhi since 2009. The very next year, Delhi Government followed suit by organising Dilli Ke Pakwan Food Festival in Connaught Place under its Tourism department. Both these festival have immense popularity and offers people a chance to enjoy the delicacies at one single place. While it is a great platform, my experience over there has always been very average. I still prefer going for my favorite spots for specific things like Golgappe, Chola Bhatura, or Momos. But there are many, who would be skeptical about visiting those streets for various reasons.
SINGH SAHIB, a North Indian restaurant serving cuisines of undivided Punjab at Eros Hotel New Delhi is running Street Food of Delhi festival where they are serving street food starting from Delhi 6 aka Old Delhi till Delhi 19 aka Nehru Place. So you will get to savor Halwa Paratha, Dahi Bhalle & Biryani of Old Delhi, Chole Bhature of Karol Bagh, Egg Roll of South Campus, Egg Parathaof Moolchand, Momos of Lajpat Nagar and Rajma Chawal & Kadhi Chawal of Nehru Place. F&B Manager Umesh Dalal, Executive Chef Suprabhath Roy and their team have put up a very interesting concept both in terms of food & set up. Be it the welcome, by Paan-Beedi wala or a Theka serving drinks, they have thought of minute details and executed it impeccably. The live band, singing old melodies adds to the flavor.
In terms of food, they have been able to strike a balance between razzmatazz of the streets and the class of fine dining. Another thing which left me pleasantly surprised was that, on the first evening of the festival, it was a full house. We saw guests from all age groups with their families and friends enjoying the food and the music. SINGH SAHIB enjoys a loyal fan following and it was visible in every guests expression that it is their happy place. This festival gives an opportunity to those, who love street food and cannot go to those cramp lanes of Old Delhi or crowded Karol Bagh to enjoy these delicacies. If you are fall under this category, you should not miss it.
