We get a lot of celebrities, entrepreneurs, entertainers, and speakers here at Full Sail University. However, on Thursday, October 4, 2012, students had the chance to meet and greet Deborah "Debbie" Gibson on campus. It was quite an honor to have such an amazing artist share her story and answer all the questions students or faculty had for her. She even made an appearance on the Daily Buzz show, Full Sail's own morning news cast.
Debbie's story was very inspiring. Starting at a very young age in the music industry, she explained her successes and failures to fame in a very articulate and extroverted manner. Holding a Guinness World Record for being the youngest artist to write, produce, and perform a #1 hit single on the Billboard Hot 100 since 1988. That hit single was "Foolish Beat."
Her career in music has even led her to other projects. She's had many opportunities to act in films, perform on broadway, and even on reality TV shows, such as The Apprentice. And for those of you who don't know, she's even done a photo op for Playboy; claiming that Hugh Hefner is one of the classiest and most professional businessmen out there.
Debbie's resume seems to go on for miles, however, she only does projects that she strongly believes in. She knows herself well enough to determine what projects or paths to take. If something doesn't fit her lifestyle or her intuition about it is not right, then she refuses to do it, especially for the sake of money. Her values hold strong and you can see that in the character she projects.
We didn't get to hear Debbie sing any full length songs during that time, but it was a pleasure to listen to her witty and energetic speech. I even had the chance to get a photo with her. Thanks Debbie! You look amazing by the way! :)
