I sort of liked these guys a bit. I listed to their first album, Young, Loud and Snotty, but I was not that wild about it. On the other hand, this song is very good. Here they are live at the great CBGB’s in New York already in 1977. One of the earliest of the First Wave of punk rockers in the USA!
A lot of their band members were pretty much assholes, and Stiv Bators used to act up a lot on stage, doing stupid stuff like cutting his chest with broken glass. He died tragically in 1989 in Europe when he was hit by a car while crossing the street. If he would have gone to the hospital right away, he probably might not have died. But he figured that could handle pain from all of his punk rock shenanigans and just went back to his apartment instead. For this error of thought, he paid with his life.
Here is the studio version of the same song.
Where does the sound come from? I figure:
Early Stooges -> Dead Boys -> Late 70′s New York punk rock sound.
