Daporijo, a Picturesque Town in Arunachal Pradesh

Daporijo is located in the Upper Subansiri District of Arunachal Pradesh, at a height of about 600 m above sea level. The place is a small scenic town that is nestled amidst the mountainous ranges and is the headquarters of the Upper Subansiri district. The town is located at a distance of about 160 km from Ziro and 327 km from Itanagar. This scenic town of Arunachal Pradesh is located on the banks of the Subansiri River and is an ideal destination to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. Located away from the modernized cities, the place holds a serene atmosphere making it a popular destination among the retreat seekers. The diverse flora and fauna of this town are some its major attractions.
Attractions Meghna Cave Temple- The temple is one of the popular tourist attractions of the Daporijo. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is worshipped at this place as Lord Lakulisha, one of the incarnations of Lord Shiva. The temple receives a huge crowd during the festival of Shivaratri. This cave temple is located at a height of about 300 ft on a mountain, from where tourists can enjoy the breathtaking views of forests and mountains. The place is also very much popular among the adventure lovers as there are many points around this cave temple, where hiking can be done.
Daporijo Museum and Craft Center- The museum and craft center of Daporijo is another popular attraction among the tourists. The town comprises of several tribal settlements. The artwork and handicrafts of these tribal people are rare and fascinating. The museum and craft center of this place showcases a fine collection of tribal crafts and their historical belongings. At this museum, visitors can get an insight into the life style and culture of the tribes living at this place. The place exhibits items such as weapons, head gears, religious accessories and tribal costumes along with the bamboo and cane crafts.
Adventure Activities- The town is also a popular destination for adventure enthusiasts. Tourists can enjoy rafting and angling along the waters of Subansiri River. The river is also a popular destination for picnic.
Kamala Reserve Forest and Sigem Reserve Forest- Kamala Reserve Forest and Sigem Daporijo Reserve Forest are located close to the town of Daporijo and are rich in vegetation and flora. These dense forests are home to diverse species of wild animals, birds and reptiles. Tourists can opt to trek along these forests to spot the diverse species of animals and birds inhabiting this area. But before venturing into the forest areas, it is advisable to hire a local guide.
Best Time to Visit The best time to visit the place is during the months of October to May.
Accommodation There are very limited numbers of hotels found at this place. The hotels found at this place are of budget class but they offer standard services for staying.
How to Reach By Air: The nearest airport to his place is Lilabari airport, located at a distance of about 260 km. By Train: Silapathar Station in Assam is the nearest railway station to this place, located at a distance of about 200 km. By Road: The place is well connected by road with places like Itanagar, Ziro and various other cities in Arunachal Pradesh. The town can be reached from these places by boarding a bus or by taking a hired vehicle.
