In March, Ingrid and I visited a place that’s not only unique in Brussels, but in Belgium as well: a cat café, called Le chat touille. The idea comes originally from Japan, where many people don’t have enough space to own a cat and can go to a bar for some feline companionship. In the meantime, the concept has gained popularity all over the world, from Berlin to Washington D.C.
Le chat touille offers a lot of drinks and a few snacks, but most people come here for the cats. The animals come from a refuge and are up for adoption. The cats that are not ready yet to be with the customers are kept in a separate space, the others roam around in the bar itself. You can pet them, but not feed them.
We only wanted to stay here for a drink and a couple of pictures, but we ended up having more than one drink, a snack and two hours of fun with the cats. The bar is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and open on the other days from 12 am to 8 pm. Since Le chat touille is quite tiny, it’s better to come during the week. The address is: rue Tasson-Snel 11, 1060 Brussels.
And in case you think this is a joke, here are the pictures and a video
