Cottoning On To Compass ...

Posted on the 23 September 2013 by Tlb Music Blog @TLB_Blog
We'll admit that it has taken a very long time to come to terms with the music Joel Compass puts out there. We've never given him the time of day before and, if you genuinely listen to the entirety of this track, you'll be as shocked as we are as to why we hadn't before. He is currently supporting Rudimental on tour and, with a new track like this one, it is so damn easy to see why.
Cottoning On To Compass ...Kiss Love Goodbye is the new (and free) single from his forthcoming EP, Astronaut. In our experience, it is quite possibly the best track on the EP, but that's one for you to decide. This track centers around atmospheric, but not overpowering beats and an incredible vocal that, to be honest, we didn't know Joel possessed.
The first name that came into our heads as we listened through was Mario. If you don't remember him from a fair few years back with single, Let Me Love You, then you obviously don't care for music ... we jest, but his distinctive vocal is something we haven't heard in quite some time. Well, except from in Joel's single here.
It sounds as though we are criticising Joel when we compare him to Mario but, honestly, when we were younger we adored that single and, now that we're older, we adore this one too. It has a much darker undertone to it and the use of the beats and bass here have been done with absolute expertise ... to the point that they fit in with current trends beautifully.
Whilst supporting Rudimental, we believe that Joel should choose this song as his last of the set. It's such a powerful one that showcases, in our eyes, the very best that he has to offer. It could really put him on the radar and leave a lasting impression on those looking to discover something new.
Paul.
