Comments, Comments, and More Comments!

By Bren @Virtual_Bren

My Girly PartsIt’s a proven fact, we all LOVE Comments on our blogs but we don’t always get them, do we?

Some people are too shy to share their thoughts publicly; and others may not find it easy to comment via your blog.

So how do we fix this?

I’ve been running a bit of an experiment ever since Harleena at Aha!NOW shared on her blog that she switched over to using Jetpack Comments “Jetpack Comments enables your visitors to use their WordPress.com, Twitter, or Facebook accounts when commenting on your site.”.

First, I dropped CommentLuv from my blog. Now I know a lot of you LOVE CommentLuv, however, in order to do my experiment, it had to go. However, by removing CommentLuv from my site, I had to go back and add the GrowMap “G.A.S.P. plugin to MGP. This is one plugin I won’t go without!

Then, I went to Jetpack, and yes I am a Jetpack fan, and enabled Jetpack Comments. I used Jetpack Comments for a few days then reverted back to WordPress default commenting system and enabled GrowMap.

What were my findings?

With Jetpack Comments

  • I found it easy to comment, and I do on other sites that use this. You can log in via WordPress.com, Twitter, or Facebook to comment. No inserting of Name, Email, Website, Twitter Name, or what have you.
  • Less Spam comments.
  • If I wanted to see the website of the commenter, I could just click the Gravatar to hop on over that is as long as they had their Gravatar profile set up. Do you?
  • After commenting, you will receive EVERY comment that is made on the post, just not notification of a reply to your comment.

With WordPress Default Comments

  • Commenters have to insert Name, Email, Website, Twitter Name, or whatever else the blog owner asks.
  • More Spam comments.
  • Notification of a reply to your post only.

Mind you, I’m not done with my experiment as I said I wanted to do it for a month. But during this first week, I’ve noticed less Spam comments and that is a HUGE plus in my book.

COMMENTS, COMMENTS, AND MORE COMMENTS!

I know there are a few other commenting plugin’s out there that we can use on our blogs (i.e, Facebook, Triberr, Disqus, IntenseDebate) but the two above are by far my favorites for using with WordPress.

What do you use on your website and why? What are the pro’s and con’s of what you use? When you visit other blogs, do you find it easy to comment?

Let’s discuss!
