Us Brits put up with a lot during summer. First we’re promised the ‘hottest on record’, then it turns into the ‘wettest on record’. Rain ruins our beloved BBQs, we get sunburn on the ONE day we forget SPF and our bags are bulging as we carry round an umbrella, a rain coat, a pair of sunnies and a straw hat. Just in case. Sigh.
As we draw closer to autumn (was that really it, summer?!), things get even more unpredictable – boiling hot one day, gale force winds the next. And all this weather worry means our wardrobes have been thrown into disarray. What on EARTH are we supposed to be wearing right now? Does anyone know?!
Here at Republic, we had a bit of a think about it and decided it’s not time to pack up your summer stuff just yet. Lots of your favorite sundresses, cropped tees and lightweight leggings can be reworked for chillier days with the addition of a few key items, so we’ve put together two outfits – with sun and rain versions – to show you how!
This pretty lace dress just screams summer – we love the cute flared fit and zip detail. For sunny days, throw on some simple metallic sandals and a statement necklace – perfect for prancing about under a blue sky! But what about when the weather turns? Easy – ramp up the grunge factor and team your feminine dress with studded ankle boots and a rocking black jacket.Top tip> Roll up the sleeves of your jacket for a softer look.
Skintight, Grease-style leggings have been the hit of the summer and everyone’s wearing them – when the sun’s shining, team these Glamorous Dance Pants with a cute cropped tee and flatform pumps for cool, quirky style. Wind picking up and black clouds gathering? Swap the pumps for wedge trainers – they’re totally on trend and will keep your feet dry too – and snuggle up in a chunky knit cardi. Take that, weather!
Top tip> If it’s chilly but dry, leave your pumps in place and just sling the cardi over your shoulders.
Will you be adding any of these pieces to your it’s-summer-but-it-feels-like-winter wardrobe?
