Climb Cheekah Dar - Iraq's Highest Peak
Cheekah Dar, of the Zagros range, is a mountain on the Iraq-Iran border in Iraqi Kurdistan; it stands at 3,611 metres above sea level. The mountain has been previously summited twice, the most recent being a Winter Ascent in March 2011, and the first in November of 2004.
Iraq may ring alarm bells, make you think of war and terrorism but the Kurdistan of today is a completely different place, open to travel according to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. To climb the country's highest peak would be incredible; luckily you could do it this March... and I might be coming along too! Between the 24th March and 1st April Secret Compass will be leading this, the first commercial expedition to the peak, and only the third attempt.
As you'll know I'm working for Secret Compass and we're looking to fill the last few places on this incredible expedition - I'm most certainly biased but it's not an opportunity that comes up often, and it's just an 8 day trip!
To find out more check out the Ascent of Cheekah Dar Expedition page, here you'll find dates, cost and further information.
