Valentine Day is Thursday and Mr. Picky Eater has already told me he has plans for us so I thought that last night I would make him something special. I was beginning to think I was not going to be able to find anything to make him but as I was looking through Sweet Jeanette’s blog I found this A Milky Way Cake! My husband is so enamored with the Midnight Milky Way, I bought him a full box of 24 for Christmas. I had to get them on Amazon because they are purchased so quick in our town. Those candy bars were gone in 2 weeks! I knew I was going to change the recipe up to utilize the dark chocolate Milky Ways. About noon, Top Girl and Rocket picked me up for lunch – Mexican! YUM! Then we set out to find 11 – ELEVEN – full sized candy bars.

It took us 2 stores and we only left one for the next guy to get but hey, I could have brought it too. Anyway, Top Girl went home to get some much needed sleep so Rocket and I could get to work making PaPa a Valentine cake. I sprayed the HECK out of that bundt pan, up the sides, in the crevices – just everywhere. I had no idea that there were different sizes of bundt pans so I began pouring. When the pan got 2/3 full, I stopped and grabbed my mini bundt pan and poured four of them 2/3 full. Popped them in the oven and sang “Patty Cake” with Rocket. We were on our third version when I smelled it – burning cake. What?!?!? How in the world could it be burning? Rocket started making faces like he smelled something bad. That’s when I looked in the oven. Cake batter had risen up out of the mini bundt pans and was burning on the bottom of the stove. I opened the oven door to get a better look and the cakes fell. When It was finally cooked, I brought them out and thought about throwing everything away but I had invested time and effort into this so I forged ahead.

I quickly whipped up the cheddar biscuits for our dinner, turned the oven up to 400F and shoved them in the oven. Mr. Picky Eater came in then and asked what the smoke was – the oven was now on fire! Rocket was laughing, MPE was trying to find something to put the fire out – and what was I doing? I was eyeing my camera, just inches away from my left hand. I wanted to take a picture of the flames SO BAD but knew MPE would get angry. So I didn’t. The cheddar biscuits went into the trash half raw and burned at the same time.

I salvaged the cake in a pile and put it in a Ziploc bag without the candy bar topping. I hope you will go over to Jeanette’s site and get her recipe – it IS fantastic. I didn’t get the name Kalamity Kelli for nothing you know! Anyway, Mr. Picky Eater told me later that his “Sack-O-Cake” Valentine was VERY good and hoped I would make it again soon, only not fill it up and do something to make the cake come out altogether. Then he very kindly went to the kitchen and cleaned the entire oven so I wouldn’t have to get in the now-dirty oven.

As I said earlier, I used the last of my Bisquick but Top Girl brought some today. I made Mr. Picky Eater’s favorite Sunday night meal: Pot roast, potatoes, carrots, and onion (in the oven – not the crock pot), salad, and these cheddar biscuits that he loves. First, I had to find a recipe – and I did. Sweet Tea and Cornbread has one here.
But it’s quick:
