Charcoal & Pencil Studies

By Pmeurice
Continuing the practice on Figure Drawing exercises.
This week, I tried to focus on the same pose, viewed from different angles. The game was to draw with charcoal and pencil, and compare the two mediums.
Here is the Charcoal :

And there is a study done earlier this week in graphite :

At the end of the two studies, I have to say that graphite is extremely comfortable... maybe too much... and that I tend to fall into lines and precision drawing trap rather than search for expression and get the right value rendering. Charcoal and pastels seems to allow more freedom, though, still to find my had with this medium.

On the easel these days : I worked a moment on the still life started earlier this month. Not so much done, but I start to get a sense of direction regarding the darks, the lights and the overall color scheme I will be playing with :

More to be done! And more to be seen! The weather is great, let's get out.
