chana masala - masala made with white chickpeas with coconut paste in south Indian style.

this is gravy style version and i already posted the dry version of this gravy.This time i prepared this in pressure cooker and this is also a quick version too.

chana masala - white chickpeas masala which i posted earlier in dry version which is the great side to go with steamed rice too.

chole masala - this is the punjabi recipe made with freshly ground spices.

here in this recipe,i did not include step pictures as the procedure is same except the cooking is full on pressure cooker.refer above recipes ,there i included step pictures for all of them.this recipe is best for rotis and parathas and also for south Indian Idli and dosas too.

this is the simple version and this is so quick and there is no need to pressure cook the chickpeas separately in pressure cooker and make the masala.In this method you dont need any other cooking vessels for it.Simply pressure cooker is enough for the whole process starting from sauteing and pressure cook the chickpeas and finally adding the coconut cashew paste to it.lets move on making the recipe.,

a thick gravy recipe using chickpeas,spices,coconut and cashews and the whole process is made using pressure cooker

  • chickpeas ,soaked overnight - 1 cup
  • onion - 2 finely chopped
  • tomato - 2 finely chopped
  • ginger garlic paste - 1 teaspoon
  • turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • red chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
  • coriander powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • cashew coconut paste - 1/4 cup
  • bay leaf - 1 no
  • cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • cinnamon stick -1/4 inch
  • cardamom pods - 1
  • salt - to taste
  • oil - as needed
  • coriander leaves - as needed
Instructions
  1. In a pressure cooker pan,heat 2 tablespoons of oil and add bay leaf,cumin seeds,cinnamon stick and cardamom pods to it.
  2. Once it splutters,add finely chopped onions and saute it till it becomes soft.
  3. Now add ginger garlic paste and saute it till raw smell leaves and add finely chopped tomatoes and cook it till becomes mushy.
  4. now add the soaked chickpeas and then add all spice powders starting from turmeric powder,red chilli powder,coriander powder and enough salt for the recipe.
  5. Add enough water and make sure the chickpeas are well immersed.pressure cook it for 5 whistles.Wait till the pressure releases.
  6. Remove the lid and add cashew coconut paste to it and add little more water to it.
  7. Again pressure cook it for approximately 3 whistles and switch off the flame.
  8. After pressure releases,add chopped coriander leaves and boil it without lid for few seconds and switch off the flame.
  9. serve piping hot with rotis.
