Cervicitis- Ayurvedic View And Herbal Treatments

Abstract

Your cervix is a tunnel-like muscular organ. It is the lower region of your uterus that connects to your vagina. Your cervix, also known as the "neck of the uterus," is important in allowing fluids to travel between the vagina and the uterus. It allows your baby to exit your uterus and travel via your vagina during childbirth. The cervix is also an ordinary site for cancer-related cell changes. Regular Pap smears allow your provider to check for irregularities that could indicate disease. Another common condition that may affect the cervix is cervicitis. Today in this article we are going to discuss this condition, so let's take a look at what Cervicitis is and what Ayurvedic management can be done in this case.

Cervicitis- Ayurvedic View And Herbal Treatments

Introduction

The cervix is the uterus's lowest point. It reaches a little further into the vagina. This is the location where the menstrual blood leaves the uterus. The cervix dilates during labor to allow the baby to pass via the birth canal. The cervix, like any other tissue in the body, is susceptible to inflammation for a variety of causes, and that inflammation is known as cervicitis. There are various causes and symptoms of cervicitis that we will discuss further. So let's discuss!!!

Causes of Cervicitis

Infection is one of the most common causes of inflammation. The infections reaching the cervix can spread through sexual activity but this is not always the reason. This may be acute or chronic, the onset in acute condition is sudden and chronic one last of some months. Acute Cervicitis occurs mainly due to STI such as Herpes Simplex, Chlamydia, trichomoniasis, gonorrhea, etc. HPV infection that has gotten worse can lead to cervical inflammation, which is typically another sign of pre-cancer. or cervical cancer. It might additionally be a manifestation of an infection caused by other factors such as allergy to condom latex or spermicide, a cervical cap, tampons or regular vaginal bacteria.

Symptoms of Cervicitis

Some patients may not experience symptoms, usually seen symptoms are written as follows

  1. Irregular vaginal bleeding
  2. Vaginal pain
  3. Painful intercourse
  4. Constant white or Gray vaginal discharge
  5. Suspicion of Pelvic Pressure
  6. Backache

If Cervicitis progresses, inflammation extends to a great extent. In a few cases open sore can develop and pus like discharge may occur.

Diagnosis of Cervicitis

If you notice the above symptoms in you, then it is must to see a doctor immediately to know the accurate reason. It is a must to see an accurate reason because it may mimic some other uterine or vaginal conditions. First of all your gynecologist will ask you the symptoms and then on that basis if she suspect that it might be Cervicitis or to confirm the condition she offers you some diagnostic tests such as Bimanual Pelvic Examination, Pap Test, Cervical Biopsy, Cervical Discharge Culture, etc.

Ayurvedic Overview of Cervicitis

Cervicitis is not classified as one illness in Ayurveda, but it is thought to be an infectious condition that is similar to both Upapluta and Acharana. Lakshans or symptoms of Upalpluta include mucus like vaginal discharge and genital pain. Acharana includes symptoms such as excessive vaginal discharge with itching and its agantuk vyadhi (infectious disease). Most of the cases of Cervicitis include symptoms of both the earlier mentioned conditions. As per Ayurvedic classical texts Yoni vyapad are 20 in number and mentioned in Charak Samhita. Ayurveda focuses on personal hygiene in such conditions, it is essential to keep the intimate area clean and dry. This is described to prevent various infections and microbial growths because if the area remains moist everytime it becomes prone to growth of infection causing bacteria, fungus, virus, etc. As a result, it is critical for maintaining the area clean and dry. As a precaution, insertion of anything inside the vagina and unprotected sex should be avoided. According to Ayurveda, if there is an infection, such as cervicitis, the woman may not feel any discomfort in the early stages. However, as time passes, she begins to experience discomforts such as yonisoola (vaginal pain), yonisraava (unusual vaginal discharge) and kukshisoola (pain in abdomen).
