Centara Grand at CentralWorld Bangkok cannot be missed by any visitor to the City of Angels. Shaped like a blooming lotus, the beacon stands prominently on the skyline, and it’s right above one of Bangkok’s largest and most popular shopping malls. We’ve always marveled at its grandness, so we were pleased to have stayed there recently. Read more…
Centara Grand at CentralWorld Bangkok is situated in the intersection of two major thoroughfares, Rama I Road and Ratchadamri Road. As such, accessibility is not a problem—a myriad of taxis ply the area, and the BTS Skytrain stations of Siam and Chit Lom are within walking distance. In addition, coming in from Suvarnabhumi Airport is easy with the Ratchaprarop Airport Rail Link station a short hop away.
More about the location, the hotel has a prime address, for it sits right at the center of the action. Malls and shopping areas abound the area, most notably Siam Paragon, Siam Center, Siam Square, Central Embassy, and of course, CentralWorld, which is directly below the hotel. Restaurants are likewise aplenty, and the nightlife at Silom is within easy reach.
We arrived at the hotel early morning, and from the stark sky lobby, we were escorted to the hotel’s World Executive Club Lounge for an exclusive check-in. After we had breakfast at the lounge, the kind lady who facilitated our stay arrangements escorted us to our room.
Luckily, we were upgraded to a World Club Premium room, which afforded us a roomy 54 square meters or the size of two hotel rooms. Because it’s among their World Club rooms, we were billeted at one of the high floors, thus providing us a better vantage of the city.
The spacious room is dominated by relaxing earth colors and adorned by homey lamps and décor. The large king-sized bed, fitted with luxurious linens and accompanied by fluffy pillows, is at par with our standards of comfort.
At one end of the room is a living area that’s spacious enough to fit two couches and a center table, while opposite the bed is a sleek executive desk perfect for business travelers. A slew of features, among them an LED TV and minibar, completes the five-star feel of room.
The bathroom is luxurious, spacious, and absolutely spotless. In the middle is a freestanding tub, and flanking it are the toilet and shower that are thankfully partitioned. His and her vanities, as well as the dresser by the closet, made our pre-dinner preparations a breeze.
When we wanted to try a wider variety of food, we went to The World, the hotel’s all-day buffet restaurant that serves a five-star breakfast spread. But when we preferred a quieter setting, we ate at the World Executive Club Lounge, which serves premium dishes.
Speaking of the lounge, it’s located on the 51st floor of the hotel, and with its large windows, it gives sweeping views of the city. It’s elegantly decorated and furnished, and aside from refreshments all day, it offers deluxe pre-dinner cocktails.
Since it was built to be one of the top five-star hotels in Bangkok, it plays host to a number of posh restaurants and bars, including the much-talked-about Red Sky (review in this link). And the hotel’s facilities—the swimming pool, the fitness center, and the award-winning Spa Cenvaree, among others—are first-rate too. Lastly, the huge Bangkok Convention Centre, which occupies the same tower as the hotel, keeps the hotel constantly in demand.
I’d like to mention that all the staff we dealt with during our stay were friendly and hospitable—they made sure that all our needs were taken care of efficiently.
In all, Centara Grand at CentralWorld Bangkok exemplifies the qualities of a real five-star hotel with its rooms, dining, facilities, and service. And because of its towering, recognizable structure precisely at the heart of the city, it is truly one of Bangkok’s icons.
