By Thelostboylloyd @lloydthelostboy

In search for authentic pizza and pasta in Cebu, I encountered Pizzeria Michelangelo, one of the city’s top-rated restaurants, on the internet. Sure, it’s a little away from the usual places I frequent, but with how it satisfied my cravings well, the taxi ride was worth it. Read more…

THE RESTAURANT

Pizzeria Michelangelo is hidden along a side road in Banilad, in an area not too frequented by tourists; hence, its loyal patrons are mostly locals, especially from the nearby villages. Owned by the influential Lhuillier family along with the adjoining Italian grocery and deli, the restaurant is undoubtedly unassuming, with its modest interiors patterned after pizzerias in Italy.

At the helm of the kitchen and the business is Chef Massimo La Magna, an Italian expat who fell in love with Cebu upon his first visit. He said he brought with him his family’s recipes, especially those of his grandmother who taught him to cook in his younger years.

THE MENU

Chef Massimo put together a menu reminscent of what his family would cook and eat at home in Italy. Although some adaptations were done to suit the Filipino palate, the selection, I was assured, maintains its authenticity from the ingredients used to the style of cooking.

OUR FAVORITES

Undoubtedly, the focus of the restaurant are its pizzas and pastas, so what Chef Massimo personally prepared for me were excellent. I loved his penne Contadina, a combination of tomato, cream, homemade Italian sausage, and chili; and his Robertino pizza, which was topped with tomato, mozzarella, Farmer’s Ham, bacon, egg, arugula, and parmesan cheese.

VALUE FOR MONEY

Pizzeria Michelangelo prices everything affordably, despite the quality and authenticity of its food. This makes it one of the best value-for-money restaurants in all of Cebu.
