Carrot thogayalToday I have a quick,tasty,healthy and very easy recipe for you all.Thogayal is a kind of thick condiment made in Tamil nadu often eaten with steamed rice.You can also eat it as side dish with dosa/idly also.Some popular varieties are thengai thogayal(coconut),paruppu thogaya(toor dal),kollu thogayal etc.I prepare carrot thogayal in the same lines,as my mom does,and it is one of the tastiest thogayal I have ever eaten.When I am really in short of time I make this along with papad and it is a hit combo.If you want a full meals,make one rasam along with this and you are good to go.
Carrot thogayal recipe
Star ingredients:Carrots&urad dal
Time:20 minutes
Serves:3
Ingredients:
3 large carrots peeled and chopped
2 tablespoons urad dal
1/2 tablespoon channa dal
4 dried red chillies
1 small goose berry sized tamarind
1/2 teaspoon asafoetida
15-20 curry leaves
1 tablespoon sesame oil
Salt
Method:
1.Heat oil in a kadai and temper with mustard,asafoetida,curry leaves and red chillies.Add the urad dal,fry in low flame till golden.
Carrot thogayal2.Add the carrots,salt and saute till it is soft(app for 5-7 minutes)
Carrot thogayal3.Add the tamarind ball and mix just once.Allow to cool.
4.Grind coarsely with just 3-4 tablespoons water.Serve hot with rice and papad

1.This tastes great when some pieces of carrots are there.Do not grind to very smooth paste.
2.Sometimes I add one tomato and avoid tamarind
