The funny and talented Chip Gaines is well known to millions of people as a TV star, renovation expert, bestselling author, husband to Joanna, and father of 4 in Waco, Texas. But long before the world took notice, Chip was a serial entrepreneur who was always ready for the next challenge, even if it didn’t quite work out as planned. Whether it was buying a neighborhood laundromat or talking a bank into a loan for some equipment to start a lawn-mowing service, Chip always knew that the most important thing was to take that first step.

In Capital Gaines, we walk alongside him as he relives some of his craziest antics and the lessons learned along the way. His mentors taught him to never give up and his family showed him what it meant to always have a positive attitude despite your circumstances. Throw in a natural daredevil personality and a willingness to do (or eat!) just about anything, and you have the life and daily activity of Chip Gaines.

Capital Gaines is the perfect book for anyone looking to succeed not only in business but more importantly in life.

If you didn’t read Chip and Joanna Gaines’ book, The Magnolia Story, then Capital Gaines will be a great read to learn more about the awesome couple everyone has come to know and love from HGTV’s show, Fixer Upper.  Chip Gaines already had his life plan laid out – he was going to be a professional baseball player. He had been honing his skills on the field and was ready to go right up until he was cut from the Baylor baseball team his sophomore year of college. That’s when Chip was forced to re-evaluate and take another route toward his life plans – obviously something we can all relate to in our own lives.

So instead of a professional ball player, Chip Gaines became a thriving entrepreneur running his own landscape business, and a few other businesses. They weren’t all perfect, it wasn’t always easy, and in fact, Chip says he learned so much from the failure in his life – hence the name of the book “Smart Things I Learned Doing Stupid Stuff”.

Throughout the chapters, Chip Gaines shares the story of his life from when he was a child up until now. He shares his walk, his struggles, and how they have shaped him into the man he is today.  He shares the most important lessons he has learned while walking through his relationships and his businesses.

He also shares about his marriage to Joanna Gaines, about how they met and fell in love. He tells readers how it is to work with his wife every day and being with her constantly. He says they first had to learn the importance of not bringing their work home with them. They also give each other the space to be themselves.  They also work together to fight for their marriage.

I would say that one of the most important themes that Chip Gaines shares throughout his book was how to overcome when life doesn’t go exactly as we had planned. Readers learn how Chip and Joanna built their business together, how they built their family together and how they share thoughts on life. They love God and they aren’t ashamed to say so. They trust in His intentions and do not shy away from displaying their beliefs throughout the book.

There is an entire chapter devoted to Chip’s explanation of why he and Joanna have chosen to end their HGTV show, Fixer Upper. He shares how it was a difficult decision for both of them to make, but how it was good for their family. I’ll definitely miss them, but I understand the idea of putting our family first. It’s something I had to learn for myself as well.

Capital Gaines: Smart Things I Learned Doing Stupid Stuff by Chip Gaines Raised in Dallas, Texas, Chip Gaines is the host of HGTV’s Fixer Upper along with his wife Joanna Gaines. Chip and Joanna are both graduates of Baylor University. They flip, remodel and fix up homes together as owners of Magnolia Homes in Waco, Texas.

Chip manages the construction and realty side of Magnolia. Their businesses include a real estate company, construction company, design firm and residential subdivision, Magnolia Villas. Chip and Joanna have five children and live in Waco, Texas.

Your purpose is just like mine. It’s big and it’s important and there’s no one else anywhere on the planet who can fulfill it. So, quit jacking around and go get after it.  – Chip Gaines, Capital Gaines   People think of him as a jokester, and he is. It’s a huge part of why I fell in love with him in the first place. But he is so much more than that. He is the ultimate cheerleader, coach and dream maker. I am so thrilled that his book releases today mostly because I believe it holds truth that the world is in desperate need of. I am always proud to be Chip’s wife but today more than ever. I know this book was a true labor of love.

– Joanna Gaines
