I love brunch. You can probably tell by the amount of times I've blogged about it already! I love what it represents, finding a quiet calm place to relax and lingering over good food, great coffee and the papers. (And perhaps a cheeky cocktail or two!)

I dare you not to find something you like here! 

Of course there’s another side to brunch too, a younger more vibrant side which I found when I finally got to try Brunch of Champions in San Lorenzo on Georges Street. The operative word here being “finally”. I've turned up a few times without a reservation only to find the queue out the door as if they were giving something away for free! Might I use the oft abused phrase “there’s no recession here”? Eventually I caved in and booked a table, get this though, I still had to queue, this place is THAT popular!
The already beautiful interior has been revamped since I’d been for dinner, now it’s even nicer, more clean lines and uncluttered spaces that exude calmness. Calm is not how I’d describe it though, it’s mental! It’s constantly buzzing; friendly staff do a mammoth job of keeping on top of the orders while not seeming frazzled or in a hurry. To add to the atmosphere there’s a DJ booth that pumps out the tunes, no relaxing here! This is a cool hip place and the youngsters don't seem to mind the deafening tunes!

There is just about everything on the menu that you could truly desire for brunch. I was tempted by Pan-fried Pulled Ham Hock Potato Cakes at €11.95 and the Breakfast of Champions, a full Irish, at €12. Eventually we settled on the Striploin Steak which comes with home fries, fried eggs and hollandaise sauce. At €18.50 it’s one of the more expensive items on the menu but the striploin was generous, not too fatty and cooked just as requested. The lovely combination of gooey egg with rare steak and crispy home fries was extremely satisfying.

We also tried the Pan-fried Kelly’s Black Pudding Omelette €11.50. This obscenely big fluffy omelet came with a liberal sprinkling of Dominick Kelly's fabulous black pudding, home fries and aged cheddar cheese, I wondered was it Hegarty’s? To be honest it was so big it got monotonous after a while but I asked for some salsa, which was equally delicious on its own, and this livened it up no end! Overall it was too big for me so definitely bring an appetite if you order this! We rounded off the meal with a couple of Prosecco cocktails and, of course, a trip to the bathroom to check out what was going on in the kitchen!

The food is divine in San Lorenzo's, wholesome, generous, hearty goodness with plenty of flavor. I don’t think you could go wrong with whatever you order. In fact I spied a couple ordering the pancakes as dessert (dessert after brunch, how decadent!) which looked fantastic and I envied the couple’s appetite! You definitely won’t come out hungry! This isn't the typical relaxing brunch place that I usually like but the food more than makes it for it! I wish it wasn't so popular and I suppose writing about it isn't helping the situation… nearly makes you wish for another recession!
