Brilliance and Tradition -Hit It! #CrashThePepsiIPL Phase 1

By Shalinidigvijay @shalinidigvijay
My boys are wrestling ,football, tennis , basketball, and anything but cricket freaks.
I am...only when India plays Pakistan ,or when Dhoni captains the CSK team(courtesy our two and a half years in Dhoni land-Ranchi) and when Kings XI Punjab was on a winning streak -fuelled by the kids I taught in Jalandhar.
Truth be told ,the most exciting drama I saw was when Bhajji or Harbhajan Singh slapped Sreesanth...all the Jalandhar effect.
As I don't watch the IPL on a regular basis  ,I miss out on all the drama the advertisements create.
So I had to scratch my gray cells and hope that age has not made them porous...and I remembered this awesome ad that Lowe Lintaas made a few years ago.
The advertisement that I am blogging about is the Camlin Permanent Marker ad.
I have no idea if the ad won any awards or no...but if I was there in the jury.... I would've awarded it a straight 10.
Brilliant.
The ad starts with mourning and a traditional diya or an earthen ware lamp ,lit near a dying husbands body...and the professional howlers or Rudaali Waalis dressed in their trademark black outfits almost begin yo wail.
And then the lamp extinguishes.
And like our hindi movies ,the Rudaali starts.
They break her bangles and make a big show of it.
And they try to remove the red sindoor bindi from her forehead.
And they try to scrub it off...while the poor newly widowed wife is still in shock.
And they try again.
And then suddenly, the dead husband coughs.
And he splutters and coughs back to life.
Almost like his wife's stubborn bindi fought that battle hopeless battle with Yama -the god of death and won.
And after all happiness and stuff...
The voice over in pure desi accented hindi says that a mark made with Camlin Permanent Marker will never be erased.
For a moment ,one Is shocked.
And then reaction seeps in.
And you begin to howl with laughter.
What an amazing combination of tradition and humor and brilliance the agency has struck.
And that product is priceless because of this pitch.
And we need brilliant ads like this to #CrashThePepsiIPL.
My favorite pepsi ad is the one that introduced the #CrashThePepsiIPL. Where all and sundry are out to replace the Pepsi ads...and poor Virat Kohli asks "Aunty Main kya karun?"
And the aunty retorts with the sarcasm remnant of the World Cup Semi Finals...
"Beta tu cricket khel."
YESSS...that expression was priceless.
Brilliance and tradition -Hit it! #CrashThePepsiIPL Phase 1
Can you #CrashThePepsiIPL with an ad as crazy as this one?
“This Pepsi IPL, it’s not just about cricket. It’s time to crash with your own created ad! Make your own Pepsi ad & if it’s chosen, it could play on TV during Pepsi IPL! And hey, it doesn’t end here… Even if you’re chosen as a finalist, you stand a chance of winning a prize amount of Rs.1 lakh! So what are you waiting for guys?”
Think about it.
“I am joining in on all the Pepsi IPL action in my own style with the #CrashThePepsiIPL activity at BlogAdda.”
