A couple of weeks ago I met my friend, Lisa, a sorority sister from what seems like far too long ago, for dinner in the city. As I'm a vegan and she keeps kosher, it's always fun to find new places to dine that suit both of our needs, so this time I chose Boulud Sud, a Lincoln Center area hot spot by famed chef and restaurateur Daniel Boulud. As they claim on their website, "this menu travels the entire [Mediterranean] region offering flavors from France's Cote d'Azur, Spain, Italy, Greece, North Africa and Turkey."
Not only is the setting a beautiful one, with its floor to ceiling windows and pear wood paneling, but the food is simply delicious.
We were thrilled to share a tabouleh dish that was prepared two ways ~ one was traditional with plenty of bulghur wheat and parsley, while the other replaced the wheat with cauliflower and dates! Simply divine...then we had these decadently fried artichokes (I skipped the garlic aioli), some kale salad, olives, and warm pita with herb-infused olive oil.
There are plenty of other vegan-suitable dishes as well, but the small plates are deceitful. It may just have been that we first met at 8pm for dinner, but I was full rather quickly! Their wine list, with wonderful Greek selections, is also pretty fabulous. This is definitely worthy of your next night out in NYC!
