Book Review – Dear Zoo, Spin and Say

A book review of Dear Zoo, Spin and Say by Rod Campbell

This book has been a big hit with both Little Mr A and Little Miss A since we received it.  Little Mr A loves it as he used to really enjoy Dear Zoo when he was smaller and Little Miss A loves the spinners and the bright colours.

About…

This board book is based upon the very popular Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell and features two spinners inside which helps to teach little ones simple concepts and first words including numbers, colours and animals.  The pages are filled with all of the animal friends from Dear Zoo as well as many new animals and pets.

Each page has a different question such as How Many?, Who’s that animal? and What colour? to name a few.  The idea is to point the spinner to a segment on the page and say the answer to the question.

What we liked…

Now Little Mr A can read, he really enjoyed sitting down with this book, spinning the spinner and answering all of the questions.  Because he has read Dear Zoo hundreds of times he instantly recognised a lot of the animals and had great delight in telling me the correct answers!

Reading Dear Zoo Spin and Say by Rod Campbell

Although Little Miss A is too young to understand the book at the moment, she really enjoys playing with the spinner and looking at all of the bright colours and pictures.  As it is a sturdy board book I am quite happy letting her explore on her own as well as reading it to her.

I really liked this book.  I think as Little Miss A grows and starts to learn words it will be a great book to sit and look through together.  There are lots of simple questions that we will be able to talk about which will help with her learning new words, particularly animals, colours and numbers.

I think this book is a must for anyone who loves Dear Zoo and Rod Campbell.
