Body Glide “Sun” Anti-Chafe with SPF 30 Product Review

By Debi Lantzer @debiL1611

If you are in the running community, you’ve definitely heard of Body Glide. For a long time I had heard many of my friends in the running community talking about chafing but at that point, gratefully, I had never experienced it myself……and then I started doing half marathons. In several of my races last year, I chafed so severely that it turned into a bacterial infection. If I had used Body Glide, I’m sure that wouldn’t have happened.

The original Body Glide is definitely trusted by a lot of runners for its unsurpassed formula to help save your feet from blisters, chafing in the thighs, painful irritation from sports bras, that horrible thing called “runner’s nipple,” and well, basically wherever skin rubs skin. Unlike wet, greasy lotions, salves and jellies, Body Glide anti-blister, anti-chafing balms are not greasy or messy. They are clean, dry and protective, to help you run better.

Here in Florida though, we have more to worry about than just chafing – we have to worry about sunburn too! If you run outside here in Florida any time from January to January, you are susceptible to sunburn. During summer runs and workouts, it’s particularly important to protect your skin from nature’s elements. Sun burn can be a pain – literally and figuratively, while contributing to long term health concerns. Chafing, on the other hand, not only causes soreness and redness, but can slow you down as you attempt to achieve your fitness goals. Now, Body Glide has released a brand new product which works to relieve active individuals from both – “Sun.”

Studies show that spending time in the sun increases your risk of skin cancer and early aging. It has been proven that in order to decrease this risk regularly use sunscreens with a broad spectrum SPF of 15 or higher and other sun protection measures including: limit time in the sun, especially from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; wear long-sleeve shirts, pants, hats and sunglasses; children under 6 months: as a doctor.

Made with plant-derived wax, Body Glide’s “Sun” provides a smooth barrier on areas of the body that are prone to painful rubbing, burning and irritation, while protecting the skin from sun exposure with SPF 30. Body Glide’s “Sun” is definitely a “must have” for runners, walkers, joggers, racers and recreational enthusiasts alike. Body Glide is resistant to perspiration and water, and that makes it the perfect weightless essential for any outdoor workout! Body Glide’s “Sun” won’t come off for up to 80 minutes.  If you have sensitive skin like me don’t worry, this product does not clog pores, it’s paraben and fragrance free. In fact, it’s never tested on animals either. With Body Glide’s “Sun”, your sweat escapes while your skin breathes. Another one of those win/win situations!

Body Glide’s “Sun” goes on right from the stick and it’s never wet or greasy. There’s no sticky petroleum, messy oils or lanolin to deal with and you just apply it liberally about 15 minutes before you are exposed to the sun, and then reapply again every 80 minutes or if you go swimming, apply it afterwards. Body Glide’s “Sun” is waterless, greaseless and non-messy. It doesn’t evaporate either, and stays on your skin right where you apply it.

Active Ingredients: Avobenzone 2% (sunscreen), Octinoxate 7.5% (sunscreen), oxybenzone 6% (sunscreen), octisalate 5% (sunscreen), octocrylene 6% (sunscreen).

Inactive Ingredients: Caprylic/capric triglyceride, cetearyl acohol, ozokerite, glyceryl dibehenate, tribehenate, glyceryl behenate, stearyl alcohol, allantoin, tocopherol (Vitamin E).

If I had to pick one favorite thing about this product besides the obvious facts of preventing sunburn and chafing, I’d say it’s the fact that this product does not roll off your face and run into your eyes. I’ve tried so many other products that do exactly that and I spend half the race wiping my face on my shirt. To the makers of Body Glide “Sun”, I say thank you, thank you, thank you!
