Blessings of the Season

Posted on the 25 December 2012 by Jean Campbell

This is my third holiday season of blogging for those who have, or have had breast cancer and for those who love and support them through the tough times that this disease brings.

This holiday season, I am pleased that No Boobs About It is more than a blog, more than a web site; it is now a tax exempt, not for profit organization. As such, we can and will be bringing programs to those in treatment and those transitioning from active treatment to their new beginnings as survivors.

Programs, in 2013, will be national in scope, using the power of the Internet, to enable women and men affected by breast cancer to participate in real-time, small  peer-support groups (10 persons per session) from the comfort of their own homes, while in active treatment.  “New Beginnings” workshops led by survivors who have successfully transitioned to a “new beginning” in survivorship, will share how they made their transitions and offer guidance and support.

An on-site library of videos from experts in breast cancer treatment will also begin in the new year.

As funding permits, we will be offering “Pink Time Outs”- two to three day getaways from all things breast cancer for a woman or man transitioning from active treatment to life as a survivor and his or her companion or spouse. “Pink Time Outs” are meant to put closure on active treatment and facilitate a new beginning as a survivor.

After the holiday season, early in the new year, I will announce the first “Pink Time Out”  getaway location and eligibility requirements to participate in a lottery drawing for the trip.

In the meantime, this holiday season, I  wish you the blessings of  health, peace of mind, the love and support of family and friends, a faith to sustain you and most of all…hope.
