Blackhawks Survive Predators

The Chicago Blackhawks (27-5-3) struggled as they gained the extra point in a shoot out win over the Nashville Predators (14-14-8).

Brandon Saad started off the scoring with a shot off the face-off that deflected off a Predators defender making it 1-0 with 12 seconds left in the first. Assisted by Niklas Hjalmersson and Jonathan Toes.

Patrick Kane added the Hawks second goal 12:10 into the second period off a wrist shot just outside the crease. Assisted by Nick Leddy.

The Predators come out in the third period firing and never let up. The tallied two goals in the period to send the game into overtime.

The first goal for the Predators came off a rebound in which Corey Crawford attempted to smother with his glove and in doing so knocked the puck backwards and into the net. The second was similar. As Crawford attempted a save and going down on his side next to the post knocked the puck into the net.

Crawford made some huge saves near the end of the third period to keep the game tied. Overtime produced some back and forth action with limited opportunities for goal scoring chances.

Jonathan towed scored on the first attempt for the Hawks.

Craig Smith scored on the Predators second attempt.

Michal Rozsival scored in the fifth round to give the Blackhawks the shoot out victory 2-1.

The Hawks have two days of rest and will face the St. Louis Blues on Thursday.
