October 26th was National Neutrality day for Austria, a day of celebration and focus on sporting activities. But for one family in Vorarlberg it was a day of immense sadness and loss.

Bjorn Sieber (1989 – 2012)

Young Austrian competitive skier Björn Sieber tragically lost his life as thousands of his contemporaries and fellow citizens celebrated National Neutrality yesterday. His brother lies in a most serious condition in hospital, having also been involved in the dreadful accident that occurred as the young men traveled in Schwarzenburg, Switzerland.

Björn and his brother were in a mini-bus that left the road and slid down a mountain side. No other vehicles were involved.

Their parents must be beyond devastation. We cannot know what pain they suffer, but our hearts can go out to them as they face the dark days ahead. My family and everyone involved with Austrian Alpine Holidays thinks of them now and we hope that you too will spare a moment to show respect for the loss of a young life; concern for his injured brother; and send heartfelt sympathies to their parents.
