Birthday Dining

Birthday DiningYou say it's your birthday!  It's my birthday to yeah!  That's basically what me and one of my dearest friends in the world could sing to each other at the beginning of each October - I am the 5th and she is the 6th!  Every year we try to do something fun to celebrate together (in fact, the picture of us I attached is from last year's birthday book group at my home) so this year we went to lunch at JHouse - a chic, trendy new-ish hotel in Greenwich, Connecticut, about 5 minutes from my office.  It was a specatacular day when we met - October 1 in the North East and nearly 80 degrees.  We sat outside on the beautiful patio at eleven14 kitchen, the restaurant at the JHouse and enjoyed lots of laughs, plenty of ice water and pellegrino, and delicious food.  "The menu at eleven14 kitchen features Seasonal American cuisine with an international twist, and each meal has been expertly crafted by our award-winning executive chef, Francois Kwaku-Dongo...Distinctive and sustainable dishes...you can feel good about eating."
Birthday DiningBirthday DiningIt happens to have plenty of vegan-friendly or vegan-adaptable options.  How about these gorgeous grilled carrots pictured here with a drunken bean dip?  Or my salad with grilled artichoke and little gem lettuce with tofu in olive oil and lemon?  Shredded raw greens with an herb vinaigrette, heirloom tomato with watermelon, butter lettuce with apple and walnut, a grilled vegetable wrap, grilled baby vegetables in romescu, hand cut fries...and that's just the lunch menu.  You need to go back to learn about dinner and the robust wine list and cocktails!  Greenwich is a fabulous place to be on any given day, but you might mistake this for NYC or the Hamptons...how's that for another reason to go?
