BirchBox - March 2014 Unboxed

By Makeupguineapig @MakeUpGuineaPig
I feel a need to apologize for the lack of posts lately…and this one being so late! Between having a bad back, a bad cold and unexpected family stuff recently, I've just been too exhausted to put a lot of effort into, well, much of anything. Thinking just plain hurts! :) But I think I'm finally ready to at least post my March BirchBox…and eventually the other March boxes. Hopefully I will have my Monthly Favorites ready to go by the end of the week too. But time will tell. :/ So, let's get on to the point of this post and see what was in March's BirchBox!!!

I'm going to start at the bottom of the card with the "BirchBox Find." It's from Jergens and it's their new BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream. I've actually heard great things about this, but since Jergens tests on animals (as far as I know), I don't see myself picking up a full size. Plus, I tend to enjoy being my pale self, and this is kind of like bronzer lotion for your body. Not really my kind of product anyway. I'm almost tempted to give it credit for being a decent size sample, but then the full size is probably under $10 anyway. So, meh.

Next we have a City Sunscreen Serum from Supergoop. I feel like I may have had this sample before, but I'm not sure. I know there is supposedly something that was repeated in this month's box, but I've received a number of Supergoop (they don't test on animals by the way) samples and don't recall the details of each one. Anyway, it's nothing too exciting. Basically an anti-aging sunscreen for the face. Nice, but I'm not doing cartwheels. The size is neither good, nor bad. Actually, I take that back. It's not really big enough to test more than maybe twice if you're super stingy…which I am…or it only takes a pea-sized amount for your entire face (doubtful!). So, again I say, meh!

Moving right along…. Another teeny tiny tube that I have yet to figure out if it opens without scissors…and I've never had them in hand when near this sample. Naturally! It's from a brand called Air Repair and it's their Rescue Balm. This actually sounds kind of nice. It's basically an all purpose balm for dry, cracked skin. It can be used on lips, cuticles, elbows, heels, wherever you're crusty. If it were only for lips, the sample might be an ok size, but my heels and elbows are pretty nasty right now too and there's no way this tube would cover all of that dryness. So poo on the size! I don't know about animal testing. So, perhaps promising, but no where near big enough!

Next disappointment…I mean product! This one is from Stila, which I would have been thrilled by a year ago, but it's been discovered that they aren't exactly cruelty free anymore. Waaaah!!! Anyway, this is a full size (!!!!) Lip Glaze in Pink Pomegranate. I'm not a huge fan of the Lip Glazes - they're just too sticky for me - but this is a nice thing to include if cruelty free isn't an issue for you. Plus it's a really pretty color for Spring. But again, I guess I have to say meh.

Finally...yes folks, we are at the end…we have a stinking perfume sample. It's a spray sample, so that's nice, but I'm really not a fan of perfume in general and the samples are so easy to find for free from beauty stores and counters. This one is from Harvey Prince and it's Cherie Blossom. I feel like I've gotten this before too, but I'm not certain. There was a while there where BirchBox sent monthly selections of Harvey Prince perfumes…and then people complained! :) This scent is a blend of Somel Sakura, Pink Grapefruit and Cool Musk. It smells ok. Kind of a really soft floral that's for non-floral lovers, if that makes sense. It's nice enough. I might consider it if I were looking for a Spring scent. It's definitely good for Spring. I don't know if Harvey Prince tests on animals or not, but most larger perfume companies do not seem to be cruelty free these days. It's an ok scent, but I'm not a fan of the perfume sample in a BirchBox, so it's another meh.

Overall, it's an ok BirchBox, but there's nothing exciting and nothing impressive, plus the sizes are pretty pathetic. Most things are not cruelty free, so that stinks for me too. I am not impressed, but my standards for BirchBox have gotten so low that I'm not too disappointed or surprised either. Meh really sums it up beautifully! :)

I hope you enjoyed this look at the last BirchBox. I have to wonder why I still subscribe, but then there's that stupid store that makes me feel like I'm getting something in return since you get points for reviewing things. I'd be better off just buying something I like in the first place! :) If any of you are still subscribed, let me know how you feel about BirchBox the last, I don't know, 6 months or so. Are you still loving it? I'm starting to wonder how they're keeping subscribers! :) Until next time, thanks for stopping by!!! :)
