Birch Coffee

By Yonni @vegandthecity
I need coffee. Every day. Before work or immediately following my workout - whichever comes first.
That's not the only cup of the day either. Late morning. Sometimes midday in place of snacking. Sometimes after dinner.  It's just a thing with me. Considering my parents seem to have an IV to Starbucks (sorry, love you, but it's true!) it's no surprise.
So last weekend when I was meeting my cousins, and their completely adorable baby, in the West Village, I had to stop in and grab a cup a joe from Birch.
For one, the chalkboard outside features Darth Vader drowning in a mug of coffee and it reads "Luke, I am your java."  Well played.
Inside, the have the ignition initiative. They have no wi-if and explain it's because they want you to actually talk to someone. Or read a book. Or call your mom.  They even have conversation starter cards that you can grab and ask another patron. They have fill in the blank kind of things like "the first time I fell in love was..." Doesn't even matter what they say. It's genius.
Oh yeah. Coffee. It's awesome. I had cafe Americano with non-dairy milk. There are so many options and I bet they're all great.
Really loved it.
If you find yourself there, then walk a few blocks to Bookmarc, a book store owned by Marc Jacobs. I love books. Real ones. And writing things like journals and pencils and cards. They even have Jacobs by Marc Jacobs totes. And they are vegan. I bought one.
Great day!
