We’ve seen it throughout our life.
The Popular kids in school with their brand new cars and name brand clothing looked down on those of us with 15-year old junkers and generic hand-me-downs.
The Popular boys and girls/men and women with their beautiful hair and handsome good looks got all the dates while some of us spent Friday nights vegging out at home playing Nintendo or at the library hoping to spark interest from another nerd.
The Popular co-worker who is fairly attractive that gets the promotion over someone more qualified, yet less attractive as you.
And It Stems Over Into The Blogging World
These are the ones, and I know you’ve stumbled across them more than once, that have a huge following, tons of comments, and seem to be everywhere on the world-wide-web. The “Popular” Ones.
The “Popular” Ones.
The ones that most bloggers look up to for assistance in promoting their own blogs, learning what to do and not to do, and learning how to make money while still enjoying blogging.
And then it happens. You worked up enough courage to leave a comment on their blog and regret doing it later.
Why?
Because the response to your comment was either (1) not answered or (2) answered in a way that made you feel as small as an ant.
Being “Popular” Does Not Give You The Right To Be Condescending.What Happens Next?
If you are the “ant”, you will probably be highly offended and question your status in the blog world.
“Am I worthy of blogging?”
“Do I not matter or my comment because I’m not pushing selling a product?”
“Because I don’t have hundreds of followers or commenters, am I not worthy of the same respect given to those who are?”
Then the anger will set in and you will either (1) reply back to the “condescending” comment in a snarky way or (2) discontinue following that blog and spread your discontent via word-of-mouth.
Why Are Some Bloggers Like This?
Are they just having a bad day?
Do they not know what you are all about? The blogger misjudged you for someone not trying to build a Community of your own?
Have they gotten too big for their britches and forgot where they came from?
Is it just pure and simple arrogance?
You May Never Know
You may be willing to let it slide if it happens once. But twice or more of a condescending reply to your comment and I’m sure you won’t be visiting again. The blogger may not care, because as we already know, they are Popular and one measly subscriber isn’t really going to matter? But one measly subscriber can turn into many of the “condescending” blogger is brought into focus and others start to notice it.
Sadly Enough…
it happens. I’m sure it’s probably happened to more people than you know yet they just haven’t said anything.
Don’t Be One of “Those”
If you are a blogger, no matter what your popularity is, please remember to be cordial to all your subscribers and commenters.
Remember although not all bloggers are selling a product or out to make money via our blogs,
We ALL are trying to BUILD a COMMUNITY.Isn’t that what blogging is all about? Building a Community of like-minded individuals who feel comfortable coming to your site and communicating with you?
