Beeftro, Balfe Street.

By Thedublindiary @TheDublinDiary
Steak lovers in Dublin will be happy to know that there’s a new eatery on the block! Beeftro joins the likes of Darwin’s, Marco Pierre White’s, Bear and Shanahan's on the Green in meeting the needs of Dublin’s beef loving population! This is their second Dublin operation with their Pembroke District branch receiving very high praise. With this in mind we headed along the week it opened to check it out.

300g sirloin

Look at that char, just mouth-watering.

The menu doesn't seem to be as varied as its sister branch but there were still lots of options. We settled on a 300g sirloin rump at €18.00 and a filet mignon at a €29.50. Both were absolutely phenomenal! The meat was tender, well-seasoned and nicely charred on the outside while still being rare in the middle. It was just oozing with tastiness! There are only a few places in Dublin that can cook a perfect steak and Beeftro is definitely one of them.

The puree wasn't really for me but the crispy bacon and onion topping were luscious,

I wasn't overly impressed with the sides of pureed potato. I’m not a fan of pureed food at the best of times, I find it too gloopy and sloppy, It reminds me of baby food! Thankfully his came topped with crispy onions and bacon which I really liked as they helped liven it all up a bit, I’d definitely recommend these ones out of the two they offer. We both decided on pepper sauce which came in a cute little mini pots and had a good kick to it but I think the €1.50 price tag should have been incorporated into the price of the steak.

Chorizo bread with mornay sauce.

It’s not all about steak though, there are a few other options on the menu and they have some tasty starters too. We tried the chorizo bread in mornay sauce which himself described accurately as “fancy fondue” It's a lovely twist on classic but be warned, the sauce is like napalm! Patience is a virtue and I have none!

The white tiled interior reminds me a bit of an abattoir but the plush red seats scream chic Parisian cafe. Surprisingly they work really well together. Our time there was a pleasant, relaxing experience.

Our final bill, with a bottle of wine and coffees, came to €95. While it’s a lot of money it is comparable with other good steakhouses in the city so it's not unreasonable. I for one am looking forward to tasting that steak again! I did notice a very interesting and good value lunch menu so that’ll be the plan for my next visit and hopefully without too much delay!
