Be Prepared for What’s Ahead – Run Safe with Tiger Lady!

By Debi Lantzer @debiL1611

Now that I've committed to training for a few half marathons and one full marathon in the fall, I'm looking at my training calendar and I see that there are going to be some mornings that I have to get out there and get my miles in before it gets light in the morning. I live in what I would consider a semi-rural area of Florida where there are too many vacant lots and too many big dogs for a scaredy-cat like me (no pun intended). That's not even taking into consideration the possibility of any criminal activity going on.

Whether you want to admit it or not, women are less safe while running than men. We need to constantly be aware of our surroundings, tell our loved ones where we are running, and do our best to avoid running in the dark of early morning or late night. This is our reality and one that we need to take seriously. However, it is certainly unfortunate.

Be Prepared for What’s Ahead – Run Safe with Tiger Lady!

Just in time for my upcoming training, I learned of a product called TigerLady. The TigerLady is a little package that packs a lot of punch. The product itself weighs only a few ounces and it's easy to carry. The TigerLady is the perfect size - similar to the size of a smaller cell phone, it will fit in your back pocket or favorite purse when you are not running. The TigerLady was designed to fit perfectly in your hand, so you can carry it in your hands. It basically becomes a natural extension of your body.

Why is the product called TigerLady? It is a quiet, yet powerful hand held device that has retractable claws modeled after a cat's retractable claws, enhancing the most primal of protective movements - scratching. While the TigerLady is non-lethal, it is effective and requires no strength, skill or training. Once you have it in your hand, you are ready to go.

I'd hate to think about having to actually needing to use the device, God forbid, but if you did, it could possibly warn off an attacker and even capture valuable DNA when need it. Statistics show that 89% of assaults do not involve the use of a weapon and that 84% of assault victims reported the use of physical force only. To go a little further, studies show that women are usually attacked from behind. If something like this would happen to someone carrying the TigerLady, you could most certainly shock the attacker and possibly give you three to five seconds of time to bolt away from the attacker.

1. BEFORE EMBARKING ON A SOLO JOURNEY, SECURE THE STRAP TO YOUR WRIST: Take TigerLady out and secure the strap around your wrist before walking to your car, leaving the club, going for a run, or anytime you feel you'd benefit from a boost of quiet confidence.

2. PLACE TIGERLADY IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND WITH THE TIGERLADY LOGO FACING UP: When you see the TigerLady logo, you're ready to Find Your Fierce.

3. TO ACTIVATE TIGERLADY, CLOSE YOUR HAND, AND MAKE A FIST: Tightening your hand around TigerLady causes three claws to protrude from between your knuckles. To retract the claws, relax your hand.

Because I'm still at the beginning miles of my training, so far there's been daylight when I put in my miles. In a few weeks when I'm out there in the dark, I'll be glad I"m carrying the TigerLady and I'm sure I'll feel safer too!
