Asha means LIFE.
If I have never known a little girl to be such a blessing, Asha is.
Asha blessed my life ( and her mother’s) on Nov. 26, 2014. She came earr—llly in the morn, and I dropped my niece off at the hospital rather late on Nov. 25, 2013. She was a little afraid, but anxious to see her. Her mom , my sister Darryl would join them shortly. as soon as he got off work. Not knowing how concerned I should be about labor and birthing, I now know, in retrospect – I probably should have joined her. ( Sorry, Atoya.) I think I was just as nervous , myself. Well anyway, Darryl, my sis did join them, a bit later. And I anxiously awaited Asha’s arrival which I knew would only be hours away.
It’s been a while since a baby graced my life. Asha comes after three of my niece’s two boys, and after a slew of nieces and nephews kids.. in fact, I don’t remember who had a child, last.
So she was pretty special, considering the fact, here mom brought her here to be born in Tulsa. It’s one of the first babies I know in our fam to be born in the midwest, in fact. One thing I really don’t like very much is the fact, our family has babies, and they move so far away. There is one family member who was born in Tacoma Washington, ( the west coast) Asha’s uncle…and that’s my nephew Rodney.
Let me tell you why I fell in love with Asha… I love all of my great nieces and nephews, but Asha is the first baby I have ever had a chance to catch in my lense the first four hours of her life. So that’s pretty special and sacred for a photographer. I swear, I really didn’t know what to do with the camera. She was so delicate and newborns just have that kind of way about them, that makes you want to breathe silently, in their presence, ya know?
So I decided early on, that I would take awesome pics possibly of a baby that was asleep for most of the morn…
and then I never tired of taking sleepy baby pictures . They never became boring for me. (I have an arsenal of them…) I thought she would leave me to my own devices of being creative.
But not so, with Asha… she rose the occasion… being as curious as she could be….
She was quiet the first few hours, but the very next day…
Asha woke up.
And with all her curiosity…she stayed awake for a while.
And so it was… what a blessing!
Asha continues to watch you very closely… with all the curiosity she can muster… curious about life, and not missing a beat…
