Arrested Development

By Amogere14

So I posted this photo on my Instagram yesterday afternoon. By the time I took this photo, little did I know what would happen to us! So my girlfriend, my sisters and me decided to run a few errands and hang out. So off we went in my girlfriend’s car. We were stuck in (slow but moving) traffic -controlled by cops-  as is always the case in Nairobi. As we approached the roundabout, a guy on a motorbike (bodaboda for my Kenyan friends) was stopped by one of the cops as he was clearly making an illegal cut across the road. As this happened, we got to the front of the queue (for lack of a better word) and were stopped as other roads released for motorists to continue with their journeys. One of the cops glanced at my girlfriend (driving) and I (riding shotgun) and suddenly my girlfriend remembered that her car insurance had expired and that she had forgotten the new insurance certificate in the house. As she said this the cop approached the car and, you guessed it, had a look at the car insurance. He went round to her window and asked for her driving licence…

Before we could sweet talk the cops, there we were parked on the side of a busy main road trying to persuade the cops to allow us continue with our journey because my girlfriend had sent someone from the house to bring the insurance certificate. But our pleas fell on deaf ears. As you may be familiar with the corrupt Kenyan police, it was either pay up or go the the police station. Long story short, we ended up going to the police station. And staying there for almost another 2.5 hours. Wow. And here I was thinking we’d spend a lovely girly afternoon shopping and eating! Anywho, after our ordeal at the police station, it was too late to run any of our errands so we went straight for an early Ethiopian dinner. Starvation was so real. Lesson learnt: never forget to change your insurance certificates and NEVER try to persuade Kenyan cops. Never works!

Moving on to fashion-related stuff, I had planned to wear this outfit and post it on the blog for the longest time but I just never got round to it until yesterday. Perfect outfit for getting arrested, right? Haha. I love the graphic tee. Always wanted one of these and so glad I got it at the US plus-size brand, Torrid (for free! Amaze.). It was quite a comfy/casual/grunge outfit of the day. Threw on a scarf for the cold, my favorite flats and some bold purple lippy I was good to go!

Jacket and oversize clutch (seen here) – Monki; graphic tee – Torrid; infinity scarf – my mum’s (I think); earrings – Primark; jeans – Style and Co. via Macy’s; flats – Target (seen here and here); cross ring – New Look; midi ring – Forever 21. On my lips – MAC Heroine lipstick (it’s a matte finish) + MAC Nightmoth lip liner.

I love these moto jeans! Stumbled upon them while exchanging a pair of boyfriend jeans I had previously bought at Macy’s and absolutely fell in love with them! And I got them for less than $20, a bargain, because the original price was about $55.

Happy hump day my lovelies! Keep warm and stay safe.

Til next time,

xx.
