Are You Stuck in a Career Rut?

Are You Stuck in a Career Rut? No matter what job you have, there will be times that, even if you love it, you’re just not feeling it. That’s totally normal. It happens to all of us from time to time.

No matter what job you have, there will be times that, even if you love it, you’re just not feeling it. That’s totally normal. It happens to all of us from time to time. Even for those of us that enjoy our jobs, we all still have days where frankly, we can’t be bothered. We get bored, even in exciting employment. Maybe it’s a case of the grass is always greener on the other side! Or perhaps, you might be stuck in a career rut. If you aren’t going anywhere fast and every day feels like Groundhog day, it could be time to get up and do something about it.

Women in the Workplace

Women can find the workplace more challenging than their male counterparts. Why? Well, of course, there is the fact that they quite often take career breaks to have kids. They may return to work part-time, or take on low paid employment to suit school hours. This impedes a woman’s ability to rise up the ladder as fast as a man can, and indeed harms her earning potential. The glass ceiling, it would seem, is still in place. The figures don’t lie, the researchers at www.equalpayportal.co.uk have produced an informative report. Which in this day in age shouldn’t be there, but it does appear to be still an issue for working women everywhere.

The Chinese symbol for crisis and opportunity are, in fact, one and the same. So you may be having a bad time at work right now, but you can use it to give yourself a much-needed boost. This can be hard, especially if you’ve had a knock-back to your carefully laid career plans. Perhaps you’ve been passed over a promotion at work you thought was a dead cert. Maybe you’ve decided to take a new direction, and it just didn’t work out as you had hoped. Do you go back to what you were doing before with your tail between your legs? No! Hold your head up high. At least, you’ve had the courage to try. That’s a considerable feat just on its own!

If your self-confidence has been dealt a blow, then you may think it’s easier just to stay in your comfort zone. But once again, you’re stuck in that vicious circle that typifies a frustrating rut. So what do you do?

Job Change?

If you do decide to take the leap and go for a new position elsewhere, then grab it with both hands. Make sure you do your research first and do think it through carefully. If your work comes back with a counter-offer? then the experts at www.sandboxadvisors.com say you should definitely give it a swerve. If you’re so unhappy as to be leaving a position, you’ve got to look at why. One of the biggest people leaves their employers is due to bad management. It’s said that if you have employees leaving, you need to look at the next tier up. That’s more often than not where the problem lies. Are things likely to change? Really? If you feel within yourself that it is time to move on, then you are probably right.

If you decide to stay put, you need to work out how to make your time at work be in line with your goals. If you’re after a promotion, talk to your bosses. Find out what they are looking for, and take the initiative. Go on training courses, ask for a mentor, read up on everything you can. You’ll find it not only boosts your knowledge but your self-esteem too.
