It’s that time again – BirchBox time! This month’s “theme”
is Rainy Days. Kind of a strange theme to me, but I guess April shower bring
May flowers…or so they say. So was this box a joy or a disappointment? Keep on
readin’ to find out! J
The first item I saw in the box is from Fekkai and it is their Technician
Color Care Shampoo. I actually used to use this shampoo and the conditioner
regularly, but I don’t think they’re cruelty free, so I switched. It’s a nice
sized sample (2 fl oz) – basically the same as a mini travel size bottle you
could buy at the store, so that’s really nice. It’s a decent shampoo, but I
wouldn’t say it did anything miraculous for my hair when I used to use it, but
it was nice and it did it’s job.
Next we have an Eyeliner
from Cynthia Rowley. According to
BirchBox’s website, Cynthia Rowley is cruelty free and I believe BirchBox is
the only place you can find her products right now. This eye liner is
incredibly creamy and glides like a dream! It also does not budge – well, the swatch on my hand didn’t. My only
problem with it is that it’s silver. I don’t see myself using a silver
eyeliner. I’m kind of curious about how it would look though, so I’ll give it a
try someday when I have no where to be. J
It seems like a fantastic liner, but
I’m just not thrilled with the color.
For the last of the items outside the little pouch, there is
the “Lifestyle Extra.” This month it’s a Kind
Bar in the flavor Maple Pumpkin
Seeds with Sea Salt. Not gonna lie, it sounds delicious! I’m not a big fan
of the foodie extras in these boxes – well usually any of the Lifestyle Extras aren’t my favorite – but this actually
sounds really good. We’ll see!
Moving into the little pouch, we have a baby Nail Polish from Color Club. It’s in the shade “Heirloom
Pearls” which is a pearly shimmering white. It’s pretty, but nothing
terribly unusual. I’ll probably wear
it at some point, but I’m not too excited by the shade. I’ve also seen rumors
that Color Club may no longer be cruelty free, but don’t quote me on that one.
I’ve saved the best for last! J
I saw this product in some boxes a month or two ago and was very jealous that I
didn’t receive it. Well, now I’ve got it! It is a mini size How Bout Them Apples? Cheek & Lip Cream
from the Balm! I love the Balm’s
products and the full size palette looked really pretty, so I was so happy to
see this in the shade “Pie” staring
at me this month! I’ve already tried it as a blush and it’s really pigmented,
blends beautifully and seems to wear very well…especially for a cream blush! I
had some points saved up, plus a coupon code, so I have already ordered the
full size! J Since I’m not a big cream blush person, I had
really wanted to try it before ordering the palette, so this sample pretty much
made the box for me!!! J
Overall, I’d have to say that this month’s box was actually
pretty good! I don’t really have any complaints. Everything is at least ok, if
not great (cruelty free issues aside). And all of the sizes are pretty decent
as well. Keep this up BirchBox because it’s much better than you’re average
fare! J If
