The great news this week is that the Boston Marathon was yesterday! My fellow Cleveland Marathon Race Ambassador and friend, Pam McGowan ROCKED that race with her finish time of 3:43:11! That is totally impressive and well deserved given all her training for this race!  Be sure to check out her blog, Run Today Tri Tomorrow, to read more about her!

And then, well, since this is Tuesday, I guess I need to post a few training-like things about me, right? We are officially less than a month away from the 2016 Cleveland Rite Aid Marathon Challenge Series in Cleveland, Ohio.  Like I’ve shared previously, all of the races in the series take place over the weekend of May 14-15, 2016. You can participate in the 5k, 8k, 10k, half marathon or full marathon. There’s even a kid’s run and last, but definitely not least, they have a Challenge Series this year! I’m not sure, but I think it’s too late to sign up for the Challenge Series, but you can still get some great pricing on the other events, so be sure to sign up quickly if you haven’t signed up for one of the races yet! Online registration is open until midnight on May 8, 2016!

I had originally signed up for the 8k/half marathon challenge series. I figured an 8k (4.97 miles) on Saturday wouldn’t be a big deal before the half marathon on Sunday. That was before the plantar fasciitis “issue” and that was before the IT band “syndrome”. It totally seemed to be a great idea and sounded like fun – and it sounded like more fun medals for the bling rack too!

Now that the race is getting too close to push through with both legs having issues, and because my doctor would not take too kindly to me ignoring the advice that I sought out, I’ve reduced my 8k/half marathon challenge to the 5k/10k challenge.  At first I felt like I was eating a big piece of humble pie, but then I realized I’m just listening to my body (and my doctor).  It’ll still be fun to be a part of the whole 2016 Cleveland Rite Aid Marathon Challenge Series, including the two-day expo, the VIP dinner, and the actual races,  as well as the camaraderie of the other runners and especially my fellow Race Ambassadors!!

So what have I been doing? I’ve been doing some hula-hooping in the pool….. and…. no, just kidding…. but if I did, this is how it would look:

Okay, so here’s what I really did this past week I ran on Tuesday and Thursday, and then Saturday I participated in a local 5K with my friend, Jan.  I had some trouble with the IT band all that day and the next two, but the plantar fasciitis didn’t flare up, so I could bear it. I will continue to do short runs, with a combination of the stretches and exercises to help alleviate my aches and pains.

I’m really getting excited about Cleveland, both for the race events and to see my one and only grandson, Dylan (and my son, Mike, and daughter-in-law, Amy, of course).  I will keep you updated on how training is coming along over the next couple weeks until it’s race time!
