And Now For Something Really Completely Different

By Ingridd @cosytraveler

The last day of our big summer trip had come… Sigh…

We always try to squeeze in 1 or 2 extra excursions before we really head back to Brussels. This time was no exception. The first place we visited was Völklingen:

What started as a small steel mill at the end of the 19th century developed into a real industrial empire. The steel mill still exists and is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage List:

The ironworks, which cover some 6 ha, dominate the city of Völklingen. Although they have recently gone out of production, they are the only intact example, in the whole of western Europe and North America, of an integrated ironworks that was built and equipped in the 19th and 20th centuries and has remained intact.

I found the color pictures to be a bit dull, so I converted them into b&w.
