An 85-year-old mother’s wish. This is what she said to her children on her birthday;
‘I’m not as young as I used to be, so I have a favor to ask. Be patient with me, but most important of all, try to understand what I’m going through. If I repeat the same thing, try not to interrupt and say; ‘You’ve said that before, mom.’ ‘Please listen and think back to the times when you were little and I read the same story to you night after night until you fell asleep. If I reach the stage when I don’t want to take a shower, don’t get mad. Remember how often I had to run after you, making excuses and trying to get you to shower when you were a toddler. When it comes to new technology, give me the time to learn it. I use a laptop, an iPad and an iPhone, so I am quite advanced for my age in my knowledge, right? Remember how patiently I taught you so many things like eating appropriately, how to ride a bicycle, how to play monopoly and how to deal with life’s issues day after day. If I occasionally lose track of what I am saying, give me time to remember and if I can’t, don’t get impatient. Just know in your heart that the most important thing for me is to be with you. And when my tired legs won’t let me move as quickly as before, give me your hand the same way I offered mine to you when you first started walking. When the time comes, don’t feel sad, just be with me and understand me while I get to the end of my life, surrounded with love. I cherish you all and thank you for the gift of time and joy we shared, with a big smile and the huge bundle of love I’ve always had for you and your children.
