I saw a lot of brand new TV series debuts in 2013. Defiance, Hannibal, S.H.I.E.L.D, Dracula, they were pretty cool. But, none of them compares to J.H. Wyman-created, J.J. Abrams-produced "Almost Human", which in my opinion is one of the best shows ever made with advanced visual effects, brilliant plot lines and mind-blowing futuristic concepts.
Taking us to the year 2048, Almost Human show us how bad the new technologies could affect our lives in the future when criminals start using these technologies for bad purposes. This makes the police more tougher than ever with a new rule that pairs up every officer in a unit with a life-like, annoying robot. Karl Urban, who plays detective John Kennex is one of those cops that goes by their own rules. After going through a rough incident that involves getting his whole team killed by his own girlfriend, he returns to the force to make a change. Except he doesn't like these new androids. Although he changes his mind after meeting an old-school android named Dorian (Michael Eli), which is very close to humans in design. These two becomes buddies in no-time and of course have some ups-and-downs along the path.
The beginning of the show went a little off-track. The pilot episode got a bit messy when the creators tried to squeeze in too many plot details into one episode. The time wasn't enough to detail two stories so the episode ended up as a bad cut, sci-fi filled clip. But, I loved it. Every week, I've been counting down the days to see new episodes of this amazing show that takes me into the future.
What's so good about Almost Human is how accurate they take on the future. It's not too far off that we feel it's impossible, but it also give us a little chilling feeling to know that this could be our future. Sure, we may never get to see this much advanced androids in our lifetime, but the use of drones, involving futuristic technologies we have today like Bitcoin with story concepts makes this show feel a lot closer to reality and present world.
8 episodes down, the show is still good. The buddy-cop duo Karl Urban and Michael Eli makes the show more fun than it is. I'm in love with this show. I've been waiting to hear the news about it being renewed for a second season, but so far Fox doesn't seem to have any plans. The show has been cut short, and only 4 episodes left for the finale. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
