On Sunday I finally made it to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to catch the Alexander McQueen exhibit: Savage Beauty. It was everything I expected and more.
Unfortunately the exhibit has become quite a tourist destination - however being patient and pushing my way to the very front to see every single piece was well worth it. The craftsmanship and beauty that Alexander (Lee) brought to each piece was beyond words. It was amazing to see that each garment no matter what the composition (leather, shells, beading, hair, etc.) had been expertly tailored. I honestly could have stayed for hours and studied each piece intently not only for its beauty, but amazing craftsmanship. There have been very few times in my life (and fashion career) that I can actually say I was in awe of everything surrounding me at that very moment. Weaving in and out of the tourists, I couldn’t help but think…..it is truly a shame that only after his death, Alexander McQueen is finally recognized as being a true artistic genius. Lee Alexander McQueen, may your beautiful soul rest in peace.
